Martina Chmel

malířka, fotografka-stylistka, výtvarnice

Born in Prague on 7th November 1976. A Czech paintress working in Prague and in Amsterdam. She uses her own, specific technic which includes combination of glue, oil and acrylic colours. As the main theme in her images she understands their magical atmosphere. She’s a member of international artist „Highway Artmix“ group. She exhibits especially in Netherlands.

She’s a student of academic sculptor J. Janda and, in Amsterdam, of Rudi Koegler with whom she took part at the exhibition at Chasse Kerk, Oude West, together with other artists (for example, Japp Hillenius – a backcloth painter, Jan Van Eyck – a bookworm and painter, Libor Habermann – a poet, and others artists: actors, poets, musiciens). Later, together with Holland Stichting, she published a biografical book of Rudi Koegler in Prague, in Holland language. Before she left Czechia, together with her boyfriend (a painter, too), she lived and worked in Czech Highlands. In abrouad her path went to Amsterdan but also she could find Den Helder – the most northern city, and Zandvoort, little seaside town (where she was painting commissioned portraits, and beautiful city of Haarlem where she stayed with Fred, a kind-hearted drunkard… For few months she lived on making mural paintings. Now she again works in Prague, Czechia, in her studio where she makes paintings but also jewellery and takes nude art photos and portraits.

All the time I’ve been finding new things. With the light, in moving, in a person… Plastic (conformal, fictile) images of a city are, in fact, irreal visions of this city as I imagine it – more colourful and joyful. I express my momentary feelings there. Those images reflects my childhood which I went through in a panel-house perifery… Photos are my inspiration for painting. Artwork is my lifestyle. A product of my reaction on false panel-house urbanism is the fact of my love to art-nouveau style, not just in paintings but also in sculpture and in jewellery. Every jewell is an original. I presented my jewellery at a fashion show „At the Golden Cock“… The show was influenced by my attitude to theatre where I with pleasure used to search for costumes and was singing meanwhile… I prefere to see the world in different colours. – So, I hope you enjoy my images…
